New staff at the Music Gym

At the beginning of November two of our volunteers at the Music Gym switched their status to that of employees. We were aware that Valuing People Now advocates more employment for people with learning disabilities but that’s not the reason we took them on. We did it because they’d been doing such a good job for the past year as receptionist and assistant facilitator that we felt it only right they become paid members of the team.

In addition to being a big step for the two individuals it marks a milestone for ChoicES at Working Wonders in Hastings, which one of them attends. The centre exists to find employment for its users and this is the first paid placement. The first of many we all hope. With that in mind we’ve just heard that we’ll be given funding from the local Learning Disability Development Fund for Breakout Media to make a film of their experiences which can be distributed to other potential local employers.

With great sadness we have closed the Music Gym at Horntye Park Sports Complex. If you would like more information please contact Tom by email at tom@decoda.org. We thank everyone for their messages of support and we will continue to work on ways to engage with people who have complex needs.

The Music Gym Roadshow is coming to Lancaster on the 16th and 17th and Preston on 18th August 2010. Book NOW to avoid disappointment

For a limited time you have the opportunity to try out the software that's being used successfully in schools and services. It's particularly successful at engaging people with complex needs who wouldn't otherwise be able to take part in music activities.
