Unlocking Music Software

The software has been designed and adapted from its use, not only in the Music Gym, but also in a special needs school for children with autistic spectrum disorders and communication difficulties.

Different areas of a camera-view can be used as triggers for sounds or images. This has proved very successful in engaging children and adults who exclude themselves from group activities.

A tutorial manual has been developed using experiences gained with both children and adults, and includes numerous ways of using the software.

The software runs on a PC running Windows 98 to Windows 7; it doesn’t work on Mac operating systems.
What you need:
  • Webcam: Phillips, Logitech or the camera included on your laptop work well. Older webcams can produce latency (a delay between movement and the sound it triggers). Cameras need to be installed although Windows 7 has most camera drivers already.
  •  USB extender if you intend to use the camera some distance from the computer. The camera takes power over USB so an active repeater lead is needed.
  •  VGA cable if you wish to view the live image on a TV/screen or projected.
