Decoda is a social enterprise, constituted as a
not-for-profit co. ltd. by guarantee. Any surplus funds
are re-invested in furthering our work.

When Decoda started we made a deliberate decision
that rather than being a charity we wanted to be a
social enterprise. The response to this was invariably
the same: A what enterprise? or maybe A social
what?
Several years on the picture has changed but there
can still be a lot of confusion. The questions that
organisations ask include
-
Shall we be a charity or a company? What's the main
difference between them?
-
What's the difference between a CIC and a company
limited by guarantee?
- What
other structures are available?
- How
do we get started?
-
Where can we get funding?
The 22-page booklet helps to answer those questions
and also provides some local examples to encourage and
inspire potential social entrepreneurs.
